GOPinion: Paul Harvey

The following is a guest-post from Paul Harvey of Barboursville, WV.  Mr. Harvey is the Cabell GOP Candidate for Magistrate in the 2010 Election.  Mr. Harvey’s opinion piece was also submitted to the Herald-Dispatch as a “Letter to the Editor.”

###

I want to say that I am very humbled to have been elected to enter the General Election in Novemberas the Republican candidate for Cabell County Magistrate.  During all the “meet and greet” gatherings, I met some of the best people in the Cabell County area, and ate a lot of beans and corn bread, plus delicious home made desserts. Usually, I was outnumbered 20 to one by all the Democratic candidates.  We all ate, talked and laughed together.

After the ballets were counted, some candidates received more votes than the others, but no one was a loser.  None of us were out to beat anyone, we just truly pursued the position we were running for.  We all felt we were the best person for the position, as we should. But, in all races, someone comes out the winner.

I pray we all will continue to be friends for many years to come. May God bless all the candidates as they were loyal to the community. Never give up what you believe in and continue to pursue your goals.

Gregg Hendry: “Let the People Decide on Healthcare”

Senator Rockefeller, on your recent whirlwind stop in Charleston you claimed the Republican Party is to blame for the Senate’s failure to pass healthcare legislation.  As a proud Republican please allow me to refute your uninformed and, frankly, insulting comment.  Until the swearing-in of Senator Scott Brown, the Democratic Party held a filibuster-proof 60-seat super majority in the US Senate.  As space prohibits me a full explanation of the filibuster, please consult with Senator Robert C. Byrd.  Oh, avoid the use of arcane around our Senior Senator as, while it may be true, he may consider it insulting.  Having 60 Senate votes, along with control of the House and White House, the Democrat Party did not pass your desired declaration of war on capitalism and freedom in this Country.  If my language is not clear, look in the mirror to find the guilty party.  Oh, as for the insulting part of your comment, the Republican Party did not stop the bill it was WE THE PEOPLE.  You have lost touch with the American People, West Virginians, and frankly, reality.

Paul Harvey: “All ‘Professionals’ Should Be ‘Professional’” ::Opinion

The following opinion piece was submitted by Cabell GOP member Paul Harvey, and was featured in the Herald-Dispatch. Paul Harvey is also a Republican Candidate for Magistrate in Cabell County.

All “Professionals” should be “Professional”

As a former DEA Investigator and Law Enforcement Professional, I congratulate the Herald-Dispatch Editorial Staff for writing the article on “Doctors-turned-drug dealers warrant harsh penalties.”

One may be a professional craftsman, lawyer, doctor, teacher, preacher, mechanic, painter, or politician. The public depends upon these “professionals” to give them the correct information at all times. Again, working as a Department of Justice, DEA investigator, I specialized in “White Collar Crimes”.  My partner and I investigated medical professionals, including pharmacies and private physicians.  Covering 5 states, we conducted audits and filed charges against 2-15 medical professionals per week…..One large audit in the Huntington area we uncovered discrepancies up 5,000 percent of orders vs inventory.   As a result of the investigation, the pharmacy owners had to forfeit all inventory, pay a fine, and had to close their business for six months.  They rebuilt and came back (legally) bigger than they ever were.

I have the highest respect for medical people.  I have had several surgeries that could have gone either way. I always ask for the doctors professional opinion.  Then I feel confident is saying, “do what you feel needs to be done”….There will always be bad guys in all walks of life.  Put your trust in God, and pray that the professionals are doing the same.
